Overview

As a nurse-led minor injury unit within a busy Emergency Department, #TeamMKUH is looking for experienced Band 7 Emergency Nurse/Paramedic practitioners with an empirical knowledge base and decision‑making skills to work autonomously in minor injuries and illnesses. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of adult and child nurses, doctors and other team members to provide high quality, patient‑centred care.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, treat and refer or discharge a diverse range of patients with minor injuries/illnesses independently as per agreed protocols.
  • Provide expert advanced clinical care, ensuring early, efficient management of resources and achievement of national standards.
  • Take charge of the minor injury unit, leading and managing the nursing team, coordinating workload and delegating appropriately.
  • Lead clinical audit, contribute to service development and participate in training initiatives to improve service quality.
  • Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, HPC Standards and Trust policies, maintaining professional practice and acting as a role model for junior staff.
  • Maintain clinical skill evidence, revalidation and participate in own development plan.
Qualifications
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Advanced Clinical Practice MSc/Pg Dip (or working towards).
  • Accredited minor injuries/illnesses or physical assessment qualifications essential.
  • Experience as an autonomous practitioner in community or emergency settings, with skills in X‑ray interpretation, fracture management and wound closure.
  • Nurse Prescriber Qualification is advantageous.
  • Ability to work 10‑12 hour shifts, including up to midnight.
