Are you passionate about safeguarding and improving outcomes for children and young people? Due to the retirement of the current post holder we are looking for a Named Nurse for our Children Looked After Team.

The post holder will take a key role in ensuring the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities and complies with all relevant legislation and guidance. This is a senior clinical post supporting children looked after and providing professional and clinical leadership, expert clinical advice and consultancy to staff and working collaboratively with local authorities, education, primary care and carers to promote positive outcomes and advocating the needs and rights of children who are looked after, making a meaningful difference.

Applicants are required to have significant experience as a registered nurse working in senior roles across the NHS with demonstrable experience at a multi‑agency level.

Main duties of the job
  • To work alongside the Designated Nurse, Named Doctor and the Senior Manager to ensure that high quality, evidence‑based health services are delivered.
  • To provide expert professional advice, supervision, education and training to maintain clinical excellence for all staff who have direct involvement with Children Looked After and their carers. In addition, to provide support to all staff in various agencies who work with Children Looked After.
  • To provide expert advice and information to partners to improve the health and wellbeing of Children Looked After.
  • To line‑manage staff within the Milton Keynes CLA health team.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership, advanced knowledge and skills, expert advice and support on CLA issues to commissioners and other staff across the NHS and MK Local Authority.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensure high quality statutory health assessments for Children Looked After placed in Milton Keynes and throughout the UK take place within the statutory timescales, allocating cases where required to the appropriate professional.
  • Where Milton Keynes children are placed outside of the Borough the post holder will ensure liaison with relevant agencies and professionals across that local economy to maintain continuity of care.
  • Work with other health care organisations to monitor performance of local health services for children and young people looked after.
  • Collect and scrutinise data, preparing reports and understanding how many children have had their initial and review assessments in the required period and related exceptions.
  • Undertake an analysis of the range of health neglect and need for health care for local Children Looked After i.e. case mix analysis to inform service planning; contributing to the production of health data on Children Looked After across the health community.
  • Provide clinical leadership, expert advice and support on health issues for CLA to social care, education partners, all health care providers, foster carers and residential children's homes, developing care plans and reviewing health care provided.
  • Work with relevant agencies and take the lead in developing related policies, procedures and guidelines ensuring these are up to date and in line with the organisation's strategic and statutory requirements.
  • Be a member of the corporate parenting panel in conjunction with other health service planners/‑commissioners.
