An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to join our multi-disciplinary Neonatal Team at Milton Keynes University Hospital.
We care for babies born from 27 weeks gestation, providing a developmentally supportive environment in which our most vulnerable patients can grow and thrive. Our unit forms part of the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Operational Delivery Network and works collaboratively with the Bedford, Luton & Milton Keynes Local Maternity & Neonatal System (BLMK LMNS) to deliver excellent standards of neonatal care.
Our Neonatal Unit comprises 17 cots:
- 1 Intensive Care cot
- 4 High Dependency cots
- 11 Special Care cots
We are seeking an enthusiastic, flexible, and positive individual to join our ANNP team who is committed to delivering high-quality neonatal care as part of our integrated MDT, which includes neonatologists, paediatric consultants, midwives, nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff.

The post holder will be required to work within agreed protocols and guidelines which include neonatal, resuscitation, initiation of treatment including mechanical ventilation, ordering and administration of drugs and intravenous fluids.
The post holder will provide expert advice to junior medical and nursing/midwifery staff, parents / carers in respect of the management of their sick baby. ANNPs will be required to support the nursing team to improve clinical effectiveness and support delivery of quality care.
Acting at all times in accordance with the NMC Code and with Trust policies. The Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner's role incorporates both medical and nursing care. They will:
Provide expert and specialist care for sick and premature neonates. This includes the management of intensive care infants using advanced clinical, analytical, and decision-making skills.
As an ANNP, you will play a vital role across all four pillars of Advanced Practice. This includes providing advanced clinical assessment and decision-making, leading and supporting the delivery of high-quality care, acting as an inspiring role model, championing service and quality improvement initiatives, embedding evidence-based practice, and contributing to the growth and development of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Clinical Responsibilities
Working on the medical Tier 1 rota as part of the medical team the ANNP will:
- Lead in the resuscitation of the newborn, using advanced skills evaluating progress and making further decisions regarding management
- Lead the admission of sick and preterm infants to the Neonatal Unit, identifying individualised management plans.
- Be responsible for initiating treatment, including drug therapy.
- Order appropriate investigations to inform treatment plans, acting on the results appropriately.
- Identify the need for and undertakes advanced clinical skills, e.g. UAC, UVC,…
