Band 6 Nurse – Senior Duty Lead (SDL) within HEAL – Nurse in Milton Keynes, earning £26.00 per hour on an ongoing basis. This exciting full-time locum opportunity offers the chance to combine clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities while supporting one of the UK’s largest health research programmes. Working within mobile units across Milton Keynes, Oxford, Luton, Wembley, and Slough, you will lead clinical teams delivering blood collection services and ensure the highest standards of participant care, safety, and operational excellence.

What you will do:
  • Lead a team of Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) delivering phlebotomy services within mobile clinical units.
  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed and maintained throughout clinical operations.
  • Oversee clinic operations, ensuring staff comply with PPE requirements, infection prevention measures, and operational procedures.
  • Manage stock levels and supplies, escalating shortages or concerns to Service Managers when necessary.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for operational and clinical issues during shifts.
  • Perform venepuncture and provide support in cases involving difficult blood draws or unsuccessful collection attempts.
  • Conduct daily audits to maintain high clinical, operational, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide strong clinical leadership, guidance, and support to team members.
  • Ensure participant safety and promote an outstanding participant experience throughout the assessment process.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records in accordance with organisational policies and data protection requirements.
  • Support the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective clinic operations across multiple locations.
Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse qualification with current NMC registration.
  • Current competencies in venepuncture, cannulation, and blood collection procedures.
  • Ability to provide certificated evidence of clinical competencies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Current DBS certificate.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Aged 25 years or over for insurance requirements.
  • Willingness to attend an induction day and drive the mobile unit where required.
Shift Pattern:
  • Monday to Friday: 07:50 – 18:10
  • Sunday: 10:50 – 15:55
  • Saturday: No scheduled appointments currently, although this may be introduced at a later date.
Pay Rates:
  • Weekdays: £26.00 per hour
  • Saturday: £29.00 per hour
  • Sunday: £33.00 per hour
