Job Overview
HMPPS Youth Custody Service (YCS) Psychology Services are currently recruiting a Senior Registered Psychologist to be based within Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC: Milton-Keynes) which accommodates both boys and girls remanded or sentenced to custody. YCS Psychology Services work across the whole spectrum of complex needs of the young population, integrating practice across partner agencies with a trauma‑informed approach. The Senior Psychologist will line‑manage and supervise the practice of other staff, including trainee psychologists, and support national and local projects, including the Service Level Agreement with G4S and various consultancy initiatives.
Experience with children involved in the youth justice system is desirable.
The role offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows, allowing employees to work from base location, other MoJ sites, or from home. Standard full‑time hours are 37 per week (excluding unpaid breaks). The role can also be part‑time, flexible or job‑sharing in line with HMPPS flexible working policy.
ResponsibilitiesLine‑manage and supervise the practice of other staff in the team, including trainee psychologists; fulfil Service Level Agreement duties with G4S for services into Oakhill; contribute to national consultancy projects, development of intervention models, staff training and reflective practice programmes; support the wider HMPPS Psychology Services Group and facilitate CPD and career progression opportunities; apply a trauma‑informed, evidence‑based approach to practice.
Qualifications& Experience
- Professional background in Psychology
- Experience providing clinical supervision
- Completed relevant training in effective models of treatment and best practice
- Likelihood of being a Chartered Psychologist and full member of the appropriate division of the BPS if required
- Minimum of 18 months post‑registration experience (eligible to take up post after 18 months; formally required 2 years)
- Annual leave calculated on a pro‑rated basis; holiday year runs from 1 March.
