Job Description & How to Apply Below
Harry’s Rainbow is an award-winning child bereavement charity that has supported children and families across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas for 15 years. Our vision is simple: to give bereaved children a brighter tomorrow.
You’ll join a small, hard-working team where everyone plays their part. From supporting beneficiaries and coordinating groups to organising trips and working with schools and external services, your work will have a direct impact on the young people and families we support.
What’s in it for you
A salary of £29,331 FTE for a part-time position of 20–25 hours per week.
The opportunity to make a genuine difference to bereaved young people and young adults aged 11–25.
A varied position combining direct support, group activities, trips, events and partnership working.
The chance to join an established, award-winning charity with 15 years of experience supporting bereaved families.
Role-specific training, including Designated Safeguarding Lead training.
The opportunity to contribute to major Harry’s Rainbow events and campaigns, including our Colour Run and Children’s Grief Awareness Week.
Your responsibilities as Family Liaison Officer
Support beneficiaries from their initial enquiry and registration through to accessing appropriate services, groups and resources.
Assess and review individual needs, maintaining regular communication and arranging appropriate support or signposting.
Plan, risk assess and deliver creative support groups, social activities and trips, coordinating volunteers and evaluating outcomes.
Work with schools, social services, mental health services and other organisations to help beneficiaries access appropriate support.
Maintain accurate beneficiary and partner records, ensuring information is handled correctly and in accordance with GDPR requirements.
Support our wider team with bereavement information, campaigns, fundraising activities, awareness events and the continued development of our services.
What we’re looking for in a Family Liaison Officer
A minimum Level 4 qualification in health, education, social care, counselling or a similar discipline.
Experience of working with children, young people, adults and families, including providing support and information by telephone.
Knowledge of safeguarding requirements for children and adults, alongside an understanding of appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
IT skills including Microsoft Office 365 and experience of using a CRM system.
A full, clean driving licence and the ability to work across different venues.
Bereavement-related experience or training, knowledge of education, social services, mental health or primary care services, and experience coordinating groups, trips or events would also be beneficial.
Harry’s Rainbow is committed to safer recruitment and takes safeguarding extremely seriously. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and successful applicants will need to provide two referees and complete our application process.
There is a six-month probationary period, during which all required training must be completed, including safeguarding training covering both children and adults.
Working hours:
20–25 hours per week, with flexibility required for some evening and weekend activities and events.
If you want your work to have a meaningful impact on bereaved young people and you have the relevant support, safeguarding and professional experience, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today to become our next Family Liaison Officer
