Position summary  The Machine Learning Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving innovation and operational efficiency through data-driven solutions leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models that enhance product quality, optimize supply chain logistics, improve predictive maintenance, and support intelligent manufacturing processes. Working closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, and operations, you will leverage large-scale data from manufacturing systems, sensors, and enterprise platforms to build scalable ML solutions.

Your work will directly contribute to smarter decision-making, reduced downtime and improving quality.
Responsibilities   Execute ML / AI projects related to but not limited to the following:
Advanced Vision Systems;
Advanced autonomous part picking;
Equipment performance, machine learning and predictive maintenance; OEE Improvements;
Cycle Time Improvements.
Research and benchmark of new/existing smart factory ML solutions measures at other Magna plants or suppliers;
Identify how technical solutions apply to operational and business needs.
Understand and use computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, computability, complexity, and computer architectures.
Use exceptional mathematical skills to perform computations and work with the algorithms involved in AI and machine learning.
Build algorithms based on statistical modelling procedures and maintain scalable machine learning solutions in production.
Analyze large, complex datasets to extract insights and decide on the appropriate technique.
Develop and manage cloud-based computing and data management.
Understand and work within KPIs, metrics, and other monitoring tools to monitor the operational performance of factories.
Develop front-end UI components; report to leadership on smart factory solutions initiatives, explaining technical concepts clearly to a wide audience.
Collaborate with IT, operations and engineering to reach operational excellence.
Manage suppliers and vendors and develop/control project deliverables; excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Collaborate with other Machine Learning Engineers within Magna and with Regional Smart Factory Solutions lead; support colleagues in sourcing equipment and technology that improves division performance.
Minimum job requirements   University Degree in Computer Science, or related field of study which includes AI and Machine Learning.
Minimum 3 years related work experience with at least 2 years in an engineering role.

Experience with in the field of manufacturing; proven capability and understanding of engineering principles applied to the following areas:
Machine Learning and AI.
Advanced capability in multiple programming languages; strong experience with relational databases.
No

SQL experience is a plus.
In-depth understanding of database management systems, OLAP and ETL frameworks; knowledge of ERP/MES/QMS.
Familiarity with BI technologies (Grafana, Power BI, AWS Quicksight, Qlikview).
Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and tasks; results oriented.
Skills and competencies   Exceptional organizational, leadership, interpersonal and problem-solving skills; excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook).
Mathematical, analytical and organizational skills; strong programming skills in Type Script, Rust, Python, C++, and/or Java.

Experience with MQTT protocol; understanding of IT and OT networks (Ethernet/IP, Profi Net, IO-Link).

Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle);

SQL databases a plus.
Understanding of data structures, algorithms and AI/ML model development.
Familiarity with manufacturing systems (ERP, MES, QMS) and BI tools.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliverables; results oriented.
