Job Summary
The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility and grounds of the long term care home while keeping appropriate inventory and distributing goods for all departments.

Duties & Responsibilities

Receive, secureand distributegoods for all departments as per the established procedures.

Secureall coinciding documentation and forwards to the appropriate department head.

Order, maintain and controlappropriate inventory as per established procedures.

Storegoods in a safe, tidy manner in designated storage areas.

Cleanthe facility and grounds as per established schedule.

Operate and maintainfloor cleaning and other janitorial equipment.

Cleanwalls, ceilings and windows as instructed.

Cleanceiling fans and vents as instructed.
Collectgarbage and transport to collection bins.
Collectrecyclable material and transport to collection bins.
Perform special project cleaning in designated areas.
Setup and takedown furniture for functions.
Assist with moving of resident’s belongings.
Assistthe laundry operation as required.
Respondto a facility fire alarm in accordance with the established Policies and Procedures.
Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Secondary School Graduation Diploma with relevant work experience.

Ability to handle janitorial/cleaning equipment and tools.

Strong time management skills, and the ability to plan and schedule tasks as appropriate.

Ability to work in a team and independently.

Basic knowledge of computers.

Understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

Working Conditions

Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.

The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.
