JOB SUMMARY

This role is responsible for the day-to-day security racing operation, administration and supervision of the security team ensuring the protection of Woodbine Mohawk Park assets and the safety of its guests and employees. The Security Manager will maintain staff development, awareness, implementation, and compliance of the security programs, relevant policies, and procedures. The Security Manager reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Physical Security.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages Security Live Racing operations at Mohawk Park
  • Develops and implements detailed plans and recommends policies regarding program specific requirements
  • Manages and motivates subordinates, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others
  • Manages the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including special events, assigning and reviewing of work, authorizing vacation and time off requests.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents staff performance and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Works directly with the Sr. Manager, Physical Security on developing standards for the Mohawk Park Security team through various security systems, a large diverse contingent of in‑house security staff and/or various contract firms/services.
  • Develop standards, work plans, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets, including the transportation of funds in all areas of the facility, employees, and property.
  • Implementation of cost-effective solutions consistent with the objectives of the department.
  • Acts as a security representative in association with law enforcement and emergency services personnel. Assist law enforcement agencies with investigations and Integrity/Investigations Personnel.
  • Ensures emergency plans and procedures are created, developed, implemented, and maintained.
  • Develop strong relationships with other department managers and outside agencies.
  • Provides advice, consultation and support to employees, other departments within Mohawk Park, on policies and procedures, and health and safety issues that pertain to security.
  • Manage the recruitment program on selection and training of new hires
  • Leads, motivates, coaches, and develops security staff (both supervisory and guard force), by developing their interpersonal and guest service skills through conflict resolution, problem solving and communication.
  • Drives staff strategically to achieve objectives through knowledge, influence, and collaboration.
  • Conduct monthly 1 on 1 meetings with direct reports as well as complete thorough yearly evaluations.
  • Ensure that Fire Safety procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed by subordinates.
  • Manage the security portion of Special Events. Requesting additional manpower and equipment as required.
  • Review Performance Management cases to ensure consistent response before meetings are held.
  • Attend and oversee Step 1 Grievances.
  • Complete Budgetary reviews to identify and explain variances.

A dynamic leader with experience in management, regulatory or enforcement environments, in a unionized environment.

Experience developing investigative strategies and conducting investigations of a complex/sensitive nature.
