Custom Switchboard Mechanical Assembler (Experienced)

Randstad is hiring for SWBD Mechanical Assembler roles in Milton. Salary range $22–$23 per hour.

Reporting to the Production Manager - Custom Switchboards, this position works as part of a crew to assemble, fit and mount mechanical components into steel switchboard structures. Candidates must have medium to advanced assembly skills and be able to read and follow engineering drawings and models. There is no wiring in this role.

Shift and Training: Candidate must agree to work a day shift for a training period of up to 8 weeks in Mississauga, graduating to an afternoon shift when able to work independently.

• Build large switchboard structures and subassemblies using pre‑fabricated metal parts (steel and copper), following engineering schematics and electrical drawings.
• Mount and brace horizontal and vertical bus, risers and bus supports inside structures in sequential order.
• Use a variety of manufacturing equipment, high‑power torque tools, jigs/fixtures and fabrication machines such as punch presses and band saws.
• Construct pallets following engineering design requirements.
• Ensure strong assembly fundamentals are used at all times (proper hardware, correct torque, consistent fastening methods, tool calibration).
• Identify design issues in mechanical and electrical schematics and raise them through the correct channels.
• Visually inspect parts and material before and after assembly for conformance to drawings, quality standards and customer specifications, and make mechanical adjustments as needed.
• Check parts picked/delivered to those required using the bill of materials, resolving issues with the Team Lead.
• Repair or rework issues detected during the inspection/test stage of the job.
• Cross‑train and backfill other employees or job functions when necessary.
• Work to CSA and UL code.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the internal kanban and MRB processes.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Able to read, write and speak basic English without help from an interpreter.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; able to pass a background check.
• Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical assembly using power tools.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and models.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship now and in the future.
• Functional with computers, able to use a variety of digital business tools (email, electronic models, eLearning modules).
• High aptitude for mechanical work and ability to visualize and plan the assembly of a switchboard structure.
• Very experienced with use of power tools, hardware, ladders and pallet trucks.
• Excellent attitude and commitment to quality, safety, continuous improvement and teamwork.
• Strong work ethic to keep up with production demands.
