Public Safety Officer
Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Safety and the direct supervision of the Sergeant, the Public Safety Officer (PSO) is a security and dispatch services specialist who ensures that the college, its students, employees, guests, and licensees are safe and that all property remains secure and unharmed, and that all college, division and departmental rules and regulations are adhered to.
EssentialFunctions
1. Security Services Delivery
- Provides a full array of institutionally authorized security measures, including escort services, perimeter deployment, patrol on foot or by vehicle, enforcement of parking rules, implementation of identification, lockdown and exiting procedures, priority response to health and safety incidents, alarm system checks, and emergency procedure execution.
- Report writing is required when assisting a student, faculty, staff, visitor or investigating an unsafe situation. The PSO must use common sense and reasonable judgment to make independent decisions in the best interest of the College and the Department.
- Manages voice, visual, and text communications in the communication center, synchronizes video surveillance, audio messaging, and dispatch operations.
- Provides current deployment and emergency response information for supervisor review and analysis.
- Greets visitors and provides campus directions and information.
- Monitors incoming vehicles, especially when the gate is secured, ensuring only properly identified individuals are allowed access.
- Notifies the Town of Milton emergency services agencies as directed.
PSO will be in contact regularly with:
- Residence Life staff
- Building and Grounds staff
- Municipal agencies such as the Milton Police Department and Milton Fire Department, and state agencies as required.
- Is trained in all non‑supervisory daily operations.
- From time to time, is directed to projects, events, and tasks such as presenting security practices to a student group, providing transportation for a candidate, and helping compile parking program data.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice
- Ability to work additional evening and weekend hours on a primarily residential campus and to be on‑call
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; computer literacy
- Valid Driver’s License
- First Aid/CPR certification within six months of hire date
- At least one year of security or related public safety experience
- Baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related discipline
- Intimate knowledge of Curry College campus and Public Safety procedures
$21.00−$23.00 per hour
