Position: Twilight Center - Andrew Douglas M.S. / Barack Obama H.S. / James Madison H.S. - Teen Coordinator

Job Summary POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part‑Time Employee Manual and the Community Center Staff Manual.
  • Working knowledge of community center policies, procedures, programs, and services.
  • Supervise Teen Program Leaders.
  • Oversee the planning, informing, and implementation of daily activities, field trips, and special events, and assist with engaging participants, as needed.
  • Actively promote and recruit participants for the twilight centers program, including field trips and special events.
  • Assist building staff with monitoring of the facility and other administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Assist with the surveillance of program areas.
  • Assist with implementation of Emergency Procedures (per MPS Recreation policy), as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with participants/patrons, Recreation Supervisors, Part‑Time Recreation Staff, Building Engineers, and Principals, or designee (where applicable).
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Building Director at his/her assigned Twilight Center.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention/Intervention training or ability to complete within 30 days of hire.
  • Able to lift to 40 lbs continuously.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • 2 years of progressive experience supervising teens.
  • 2 years of experience organizing and/or leading sports, arts & crafts, dance, and/or drama activities.
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • Experience working with large groups independently.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Ability to relate to and empathize with teen issues and de‑escalate conflicts.
  • Excellent decision‑making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possibly loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or in a similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within the parameters of the training provided).
