Political​/State Capitol Reporter

58 is looking for an experienced Political/State Capitol Reporter to cover local and national politics. In this role, you will generate compelling, innovative and timely stories, create and maintain a network of contacts, validate and determine the credibility of news leads, and write and produce quality news stories for multiple media platforms.

Successful candidates must be able to give strong live reports, excel in breaking news assignments, and generate work that is fair, balanced and accurate. The position is based in Madison, WI (relocation considered). Experience covering local and state government news, a clear understanding of various laws, and fluency in the use of government records and the state and federal open records acts are required.

• Generate compelling, innovative and timely stories on local and national politics for multiple media platforms.
• Develop and maintain a network of contacts; validate the credibility of news leads.
• Write and produce quality news stories; deliver strong live reports and contribute to breaking news coverage.
• Ensure reporting is fair, balanced and accurate.

• Residence in or willingness to relocate to Madison, Wisconsin.
• Experience covering local and state government news.
• Strong understanding of laws and fluency with government records and state/federal open records acts.
