Responsibilities
  • Provide dental assistance and instruction to students before, during, and after treatment of patients, including dental emergencies, as per the Clinic Operations Manual.
  • Instruct dental students in four-handed dentistry concepts and practices.
  • Assist students and faculty with compliance to record‑keeping protocols related to patient treatment.
  • Maintain and monitor the accepted practices and care of dental equipment, instruments, and supplies per MUSOD standards and regulatory group requirements.
  • Assist with coordination of student activities and evaluation of compliance with practice standards.
  • Distribute, assist, and monitor instrument and equipment management and case cart system.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Provide back‑up support for the group coordinator, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling patient records and other computer‑related duties.
  • Attend in‑service programs, group and dental assistant meetings, and other committee meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • High school education plus one year of dental assistant experience.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy.
  • Regulatory agency requirements.
  • Four-handed dentistry.
  • Instrumentation.
  • Impression materials and cements.
  • X-ray technology and procedures.
  • Sterilization procedures.
  • Patient management techniques.
  • Health-Care Provider CPR.
  • Dexterity and ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing, and walking.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent customer service and listening skills.
  • Discernment, flexibility, and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in a fast-paced environment.
