Job Requirements
  • Provide dental assistance and instruction to students during examinations, diagnostic testing, and treatment of patients, including monitoring patient comfort, taking and developing x-rays, and assuring clinic procedures are followed.
  • Assist dental students and faculty in processing paperwork related to patient examination and treatment, such as creating and filing endodontic packets and assigning new patients to students.
  • Maintain and monitor cleanliness and sterilization of dental equipment and instruments per OSHA requirements.
  • Order and stock supplies using MU Dental Store procedures, maintaining all related paperwork; assist with budget monitoring and planning.
  • Facilitate the patient billing process, including preparing and submitting insurance forms, collecting payment, and recording treatments.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, handle patient files and provide information and assistance to patients, hospitals, insurance companies, and doctors’ offices.
  • Maintain patient recall system: schedule appointments, send postcards, and keep records.
  • Check‑out and monitor return of supplies, equipment, and medication issued to students and faculty.
  • Coordinate the repair and maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Assist with sophomore lab courses: set up supplies and equipment, record grades, and coordinate the lab schedule.
  • Communicate with suppliers and stay familiar with new products and equipment.
  • Provide orientation to dental students new to the endodontic department.
  • Attend in‑service programs and various meetings as required.
Other Experience and Qualifications
  • High school education plus one year of dental assisting experience.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy, regulator agency requirements, four‑handed dentistry, instrumentation, impression materials and cements, x‑ray technology and procedures.
  • Experience with sterilization procedures, patient management techniques, Health‑Care Provider CPR.
  • Dexterity, ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing, and walking.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, basic computer skills, excellent customer service and listening skills, discretion, flexibility.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, work independently with little supervision, and manage frequent interruptions in a fast‑paced environment.
