Performs moderately complex dental hygienist work. This involves cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth and conducting educational programs for the prevention and control of dental disease. Under general supervision, with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment, the worker provides services to the clinic's patients in accordance with the general policies and performance standards established by the clinic.
POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene instruction and of dental-related areas.
- Reinforce treatment plan needs for patients.
- Clean, scale, and polish teeth.
- Expose, process, and evaluate developed radiographs.
- Manage patient hygiene regimen.
- Record oral conditions and findings in computer charts; update tooth chart, work to be done, procedures performed, cost of procedures, and recommendations needed for patients.
- Develop prevention programs for patients.
- Clean the hygiene room, sterilize instruments, and prepare the hygiene room for patients.
- May apply pit and fissure sealant to teeth, to include Fluoride and Varnish.
- Other related assigned duties to support, collaborate, and facilitate patient care.
- Administer x-rays, sterilization, sharpen instruments, chart for exam appointments and Perio Exams
- Assist the dental team in expediting patient care whenever possible and perform all other related duties to support, collaborate, and facilitate patient care needs.
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program, licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin. - Experience:
Knowledge of dental disease prevention techniques, dental prophylaxis techniques and procedures, and public health dental programs. - Expertise:
Skill in the use of dental tools and equipment. Ability to clean and care for human teeth; to instruct patients in the proper care of teeth and gums; to expose, develop, and mount X-rays; to maintain records; and to prepare concise reports. - Language:
Comprehend and use primary written or spoken language to communicate information and ideals. - Hours of Work:
