The new faculty will have expertise both in a critical social work area of research (e.g., health disparities, poverty policy, child welfare, community practice, criminal justice, etc.) and in AI and Data Science. The incoming faculty will collaborate with NMDSI to drive innovative research, strengthen community engagement, and develop AI and Data Science talent to support Milwaukee's growth as a technology and innovation hub.

Key Job Responsibilities

UWM is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as both a Research 1 and Community Engaged university. As one of the few Carnegie R1 Research Universities with a Community Engagement designation, UWM offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on public health through research, teaching, and collaboration.

Accredited by the CSWE, the Social Work Department is housed in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare in the College of Community Engagement and Professions. The Department confers BSW and MSW degrees, and with the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, jointly offers a PhD degree in Social Welfare. The doctoral program prepares students for leadership roles such as university faculty, program evaluators, and policy analysts.

The MSW program, which offers both online and in‑person curricular options, emphasizes generalist practice. In addition, students can complete accredited programming in substance abuse counseling and school social work along with interdisciplinary certificates in trauma‑informed care, applied gerontology, and nonprofit management. MSW students can also earn coordinated degrees with various programs such as criminal justice and criminology (CJC).
