Under the supervision of the Dean of the Manufacturing, Construction, & Transportation pathway, this instructor will provide both theoretical and practical instruction to students in our cabinet making shop. Work is performed by providing individual and group instruction by means of demonstrations, sketches, explanations, and visual aids. Develops and teaches concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
Responsibilities- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Educational Requirements:
Must possess at least one of the following:
- 1) Completion of a carpentry or woodworking registered apprenticeship
- 2) Technical diploma in cabinet making or architectural woodworking
- 3) 60 College credits
Minimum Occupational
Experience:
Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of full-time or equivalent (14,000 hours) experience as a cabinet maker or architectural woodworker. In addition one of the following must be met:
- 1) At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years
- 2) Two (2) years of teaching carpentry course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years
One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time.

Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the Spring semester.

Location:
This position is up to a .5 FTE and hours, location, and modality are based on enrollment and departmental need. This is an in-person teaching opportunity.
Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
