Horton’s Kids is a community-based organization committed to driving positive change for over 600 children and families in Southeast DC by providing comprehensive academic, social‑emotional, health, and wellness support. Our organization is deeply rooted in the communities we serve. We partner with communities in Southeast DC, where children and families with immense potential face the daily reality of historical disinvestment and systemic racism.
Our approach involves working directly with families to access resources and services to overcome unjust obstacles and reach their full potential. Horton’s Kids operates three Community Resource Centers, each playing a vital role in our mission. At the heart of our operations is Horton’s Kids Community Resource Hub or “Horton’s Hub”, serving as our largest location and headquarters. This multifunctional space serves as both our administrative offices and the central hub for our programming and distribution efforts.
Horton’s Kids is seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to join our team as a College and Career Success Coach to work with high school juniors and seniors in the out‑of‑school time (OST) space. The Success Coach will play a pivotal role in supporting students in setting and achieving their academic and career goals, as well as providing assistance with college and career applications, FAFSA, and other necessary processes.
- Collaborate with high school juniors and seniors to develop personalized academic and career goals.
- Assist students with college and career applications, including researching programs, completing applications, and submitting required materials.
- Guide students through the FAFSA application process and explore financial aid options to support their post‑secondary education.
- Monitor students’s credit accumulation and progress towards graduation requirements under the direction of CCR manager, maintain regular communication with school personnel to ensure students are meeting academic expectations.
- Provide personalized support to a caseload of 5-7 students, offering guidance and resources to help them succeed.
- Conduct regular check‑ins with students to assess progress, address challenges, and celebrate accomplishments.
- Work closely with the College and Career Manager to develop strategies to support student success.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress towards goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field (preferred)
- Experience working with high school students in an educational or youth development setting.
- Strong knowledge of college and career application processes, FAFSA, and financial aid options
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload effectively.
- Commitment to supporting students in achieving their full potential.
Salary: $22.00/hr. – $25.00/hr., depending on experience.
This is a part‑time hourly position.
