Student Communications & Outreach Assistant

UWM’s Student Communications & Outreach Assistant position serves as the initial contact for students and supporters regarding the admissions process, promptly addressing inquiries and resolving issues. You'll offer crucial admissions information, connect students with relevant departments, and make outgoing calls to prospective students.

Overview of Office of Undergraduate Admissions

All Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA) staff are expected to maintain and uplift Enrollment Management’s core values of being a student-ready campus, creating a culture of care, and leaving a positive impact on our community. Our team demonstrates a commitment to being an expert on knowledge of UW-Milwaukee and showcasing the opportunities and experiences that exist for future Panthers.

Responsibilities
  • Provide student‑ready and welcoming customer service to all Office of Undergraduate Admissions guests making them feel valued and understood
  • Utilize resources, people and individual knowledge to find the best solution to questions and/or problems
  • Act as ambassadors of UWM by increasing awareness of our institution and Milwaukee community
  • Provide resources and timely follow up as needed by working collaboratively with staff in OUA and across campus
  • Become an expert on UWM resources, events, and support systems to share accurate expectations and information with families and students.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by communicating effectively and appropriately
  • Utilize problem solving skills to work independently and complete tasks within given deadlines
  • Actively engage in on‑going reflection, feedback, and evaluation while participating in 1:1 and team meetings and staff trainings
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled as a UW‑Milwaukee student seeking an associate, bachelor's or master's degree
  • Ability to work all dates and hours the job requires (specific dates provided during interview process), with availability to work at least 15 hours per week between the hours of 8:30am‑4pm, Monday‑Friday.
  • Must be in ‘good standing’ with conduct at time of appointment and remain free while employed. Behavior/Conduct records in University Housing and the Dean of Students Office will be checked when making hiring decisions.
