Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Lead Teacher and Principal, the Teaching Assistant will support the academic success and character development of all scholars in the assigned classroom and/or grade level. The Teaching Assistant will work closely with scholars, parents, and school administration to develop individual teaching and classroom management skills.
Responsibilities- Support a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment in which all scholars are invested in academic excellence and character growth.
- Provide assistance in lesson preparation (making copies, gathering materials, passing out supplies, etc.).
- Assist the teacher in achieving the highest outcomes for students and actively participate in the planning process.
- Apply classroom‑management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain accurate and complete records, including attendance, behavior, academic achievement, and other relevant data.
- Set and hold scholars accountable to extremely high academic and behavioral standards.
- Implement lessons, assessments, and character‑education activities as designed by the lead teacher.
- Support students through one‑on‑one tutoring or small‑group instruction, implementing remediation or acceleration under guidance.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining on‑task behavior by consistently complimenting, checking for understanding and refocusing students.
- Help students with educational technology (login, computer usage, reinforcing procedures, answering questions, monitoring activity).
- Monitor students during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other key transitions throughout the day.
- Recognize, celebrate and reward scholar achievement and character development.
- Build rapport with scholars, parents, and families.
- Continuously improve teaching skills by seeking constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as requested or required.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree preferred).
- At least one year of teaching experience is a plus.
- Experience working with youth and families in low‑income urban communities.
- Proficient with technology.
- Valid teaching credential or willingness to attain one (preferred).
