Job Summary
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is actively recruiting qualified candidates for a Special Education Itinerant - Assistive (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Teacher position within the Department of Specialized Services for the 2025-26 school year.
The Special Education Itinerant - Assistive Technology Support Teacher plays a critical role in ensuring that students with disabilities have equitable access to learning by guiding the effective integration of assistive technology within the special education process. This position supports special education teachers, related service providers, and IEP teams in understanding, assessing, and determining student needs for AT tools and services.
The AT Program Support Teacher provides classroom-based consultations; recommends appropriate AT tools to enhance student access, communication, and participation.

Qualifications
Eligible applicants MUST:
- Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Hold a current lifetime license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in special education (801, 808, 809, 810, 811, or 830).
- A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience as fully certified special education teacher.
- Demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Evidence of skills in individual and group management, parent training, curriculum development, instructional materials development, learning theories and strategy/intervention development and implementation.
- Proficient user in computer applications and related technologies including keyboarding, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and Google products.
- Knowledge of special education procedures, instructional methodologies and assessment and Universal Design for Learning.
- Knowledge of federal/state laws and district policies related to assistive technology.
- Knowledge of best practices development, facilitation and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
- Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated proficiencies in presentation skills including planning, developing and delivering a variety of professional development activities.
- Ability to work independently and to complete assigned tasks and projects within given timelines.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work collaboratively with team members, school and district personnel, parents and community members.
- Ability to accurately interpret various forms of data to effectively inform decision making and goal writing.
The Special Education Itinerant - AT Support Teacher is responsible for training students, staff, and families on the use of AT devices, software, and strategies, as well as developing accessible paper and web-based AT resources for district personnel. The AT Program Support Teacher also helps troubleshoot school-based technical issues related to AT and delivers both individual and district-wide professional development. By championing the use of AT and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this position promotes inclusive learning environments and ensures compliance with federal and state laws, including IDEA, as well as district policies related to assistive technology.
Key areas of focus include:
1. Support special education teachers in the development of IEPs that meet DPI's compliance standards in assistive technology.
2. Provide consultation to special education and regular education teachers in how to effectively provide and implement the use of AT tools within the school and classroom environment.
3. Participate in the development and enhancement of a district-wide culture that promotes professional growth and student learning.
Knowledge of a variety of topics including but not limited to:
- Assistive technology assessment tools
- Accessible Educational Materials (AEM)
- Low-tech, mid-tech and high-tech assistive technology tools for academic areas and functional performance
- Read & Write for Google Chrome and Orbit Note
- Boardmaker
- Identifying barriers and access points to learning and the school environment
- the Individual Education Plan development process
- IEP development based upon the WI State Standards and Essential Elements
