The Senior Project Engineer leads complex engineering projects from early design through full production approval. This role manages tooling, fixtures, gauging, routings, schedules, dimensional validation, and overall project profitability while serving as the primary technical contact for customers.
This position requires strong experience in casting processes along with the ability to mentor other engineers, drive APQP activities, and influence plant‑level operational improvements. Ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and is confident managing customer expectations, production challenges, and technical problem solving.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee all aspects of assigned part projects, including tool design, gauge design, supplier coordination, and production readiness.
- Lead APQP activities and ensure projects meet customer expectations for quality, cost, and timing.
- Serve as a mentor to Level I and II Engineers; may oversee engineering interns.
- Act as a contributor to plant leadership initiatives, including continuous improvement, operational reviews, and OKR‑related activities.
- Troubleshoot casting‑related scrap, dimensional defects, and line‑down issues.
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes with emphasis on casting and downstream operations.
- Support or lead operational review meetings with senior leadership; able to represent the plant manager when needed.
- Assist with audits, regulatory compliance, and customer visits.
- Conduct technical presentations and seminars for customers as required.
- Support R&D efforts focused on tooling, material behavior, and process improvement within casting operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline OR equivalent combination of education and hands‑on casting/manufacturing experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a foundry or casting environment required.
- Background in aerospace/defense manufacturing is a plus.
- Experience with CAD, FEA, and statistical analysis tools such as Minitab preferred.
- Strong understanding of tooling, material characteristics, and machining/manufacturing fundamentals.
- Familiarity with ISO/IATF/AS quality requirements.
- Able to apply GD&T principles and continuous flow/lean concepts.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Solid Cast, NX/Unigraphics preferred).
- Comfortable using precision measuring equipment and various lifting/handling tools.
- Strong communication, customer interaction, and problem‑solving skills.
