This opportunity is available at any location in the United States. Ideally, selected candidates will be near a Jacobs U.S. based office, but we intend to hire the best candidates from anywhere in the country.

As a Senior Telecommunications Engineer, you’ll lead the technical design of systems for data center buildings, including structured cabling, wireless, audio‑visual, and other low‑voltage systems. You’ll mentor other telecom team members and ensure projects are completed on time.

Base Pay Range

Responsibilities
  • Preliminary assessments
  • Concept creation
  • Internal and external problem resolution
  • Drawing and specification production
  • Customer and vendor accessibility
  • Being the EoR for designs
  • Providing coverage for project leads
  • May lead projects depending on bandwidth
  • Lead the BIM designers in preparation of engineering drawings
  • Create or modify DIV 27 specifications
  • Conduct site visits
  • Review technical documents
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Sign and seal telecommunications design packages
  • Mentor other team members
  • Work with the lead engineer and/or department manager to identify processes that improve departmental efficiency
Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering or Communication Engineering bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience designing or leading designs for telecommunications structured cabling systems
  • Thorough knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, NFPA 70, and related standards
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam
  • Self‑motivation to coordinate with other disciplines, project managers, and clients
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Familiarity with responding to RFPs
  • Experience in QA/checking telecommunications systems designed by others
  • Experience with start‑up and commissioning of telecommunications systems
  • Experience creating a budget for a project
  • Experience creating and maintaining a project schedule
  • Experience identifying and mitigating company risk
  • PE license required (multiple licenses acceptable)
Ideal Additional Qualifications
  • 4 years of telecommunications design experience in data centers
  • Experience working on other low‑voltage systems (security, audio/visual, wireless)
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks design software platforms
  • Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for control and security systems
  • Knowledge of CSI or AIA specification writing procedures
  • Credential as an RCDD
