MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Utility Coordinator in the Technical Services Division. Reporting to the Municipal Program Manager, you will oversee multiple construction projects impacting MMSD facilities. You will partner with municipalities and various other agencies to establish and maintain open lines of communication to ensure the protection of MMSD facilities.
- Review and submit utility project plans for the Department of Transportation and local municipalities. Represent MMSD and provide oversight of MMSD interests throughout project activities, such as preconstruction meetings, project status reviews, and construction.
- Collaborate with staff on technical reviews of proposed projects and potential impacts to MMSD facilities.
- Conduct site visits for active municipal sewer projects. Verify completed projects with current project plans. Ensure all projects are compliant with construction specifications.
- Investigate incidents that may or may not impact MMSD facilities.
- Serve as the primary contact when working with contractors to resolve issues and arrive at agreeable solutions that meet MMSD requirements.
- Update multiple databases with project information, including reports, record sketches, and photos.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, landscape architecture, or a related field.
- Three years of job-related experience (advanced education degrees will be considered in lieu of experience).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed reports, field notes, and to contribute to detailed technical reports and records.
- Competent in establishing and maintaining effective public and working relations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work with blueprints, specifications, and plans.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply various construction codes and standards.
- Capable of performing all jobs testing accurately.
- Ability to apply knowledge of OSHA confined entry procedures to the safe completion of job duties.
- Ability to use surveying equipment and field-testing equipment.
- Computer software proficiency.
- Confined space entry and CPR certifications (provided by MMSD).
- Valid driver's license required and a good driving record at time of application, during the selection process, and throughout employment.
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking, hearing, and using hands. Work frequently requires standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, reaching with hands and arms, and pushing or pulling. Work occasionally requires sitting, climbing, balancing, smelling, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to access a confined space through a 20-inch diameter opening.
- Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities.
- Work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and equipment. Work is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non-weather), and vibration. Work occasionally requires working in high/precarious places. Work is occasionally exposed to extreme cold (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and blood borne pathogens (may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment including wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus).
- Work is generally in a very loud noise location.
Requires the use of safety glasses, hard hat, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, coverall, gloves, rain gear, safety vest, and self-contained breathing apparatus as dictated by the location of work being performed.
