MILWAUKEE at our FROEDTERT HOSPITAL facility.

This job is ON-SITE.

FTE: 0.5

Shift: Flexible 1st shift, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, to meet business needs.

Job Summary:

To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing and medical providers, promoting patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in medical interpreting for Deaf and hard of hearing patients in a professional setting is required.
  • 3+ years of related experience preferred. Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred.
Education:
  • RID-recognized certification is required.
  • A Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience is required for certification as an ASL interpreter.
Skills:
  • Bilingual in English and the interpreted language, with solid medical terminology knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic, treatment, and preventive care processes accurately and culturally competently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to perform under stress and during medical emergencies.
  • Travel between locations during shifts is required.
  • Formal interpreter training and proven medical interpreting experience are preferred.
Licensure:
  • State of Wisconsin, Department of Safety and Professional Services license required.
  • RID-recognized certification preferred.
