Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories (WDL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin regional health network, which is a partnership between Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin supporting a shared mission of patient care, innovation, medical research and education. We perform over five million tests annually with test capabilities that match the largest labs in the world, providing expert academic care in every community. We combine our robust test directory and expert faculty and staff with compassionate patient care and unparalleled logistical support. WDL specializes in delivering comprehensive, clinical laboratory services to clients ranging from large tertiary care centers to small community practices.

Using appropriate phlebotomy techniques, drives to LTC clients and private homes to collect specimens from patients and enters data into the computer system.

Responsibilities
  • Collects patient specimens using all phlebotomy techniques including blood cultures, venipunctures (syringes, butterflies) and central venous lines.
  • Maintains an average of ≤ (less than or equal to) 8 re-draws per month due to unable to collect, clotted, or hemolyzed reasons.
  • Consistently collects the accurate amount and type of specimens, processes the specimens appropriately by putting them on ice, in warm water, or protecting them from light; and transports specimens in a timely manner to the main lab for testing, as appropriate.
  • Identifies all special draws prior to phlebotomy.
  • Maintains an average of ≤ (less than or equal to) 3 re-draws per month due to QNS (quantity not sufficient) and ≤ (less than or equal to) 1 re-draw per 6 months due to wrong or missed tube, and ≤ (less than or equal to) 1 re-draw per 6 months due to improperly handled specimen.
  • Regularly completes an average of 8-10 LTC patients per hour, as workload requires.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Completion of external phlebotomy program including clinical and 12 months experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws OR completion of Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories Phlebotomy School including clinical and minimum 6 months experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws OR in lieu of education (in either case), minimum of 2 years full time experience with phlebotomy being a regular daily responsibility, including a minimum of 100 draws.
  • Windows-based computer skills and also skilled in clerical functions such as telephones, e-mails, pagers, running copy and fax machines.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and Department of Motor Vehicle record meeting the requirements of Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories’ Vehicle Liability Policy
  • Map reading and way-finding skills throughout the Greater Milwaukee area.
