Job Summary

Performs surgical scheduling and clerical duties while functioning as an integral communication link for the nursing team, physicians and clinics. Accountable for follow‑up with clinics and service coordinators. Accurately assigns surgical cases to available time slots by working within guidelines. Aligns with OR service coordinators to ensure proper equipment, procedure time, and staff needs. Serves as a liaison with specialty clinics and physicians for correct surgical case scheduling by analyzing proper case needs.

Identifies and escalates surgical case discrepancies using decision making based on block time and open scheduling opportunities. Creates the daily operating room schedule including but not limited to: accuracy of patient demographics, pre‑certification, time allotted for procedure and patient admission status.

Experience

One year of related experience required. Three years of previous clerical and surgery scheduling system experience preferred.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Typing 45–60 words per minute
  • Ability to identify critical issues and exercise independent judgment
  • Detail oriented with ability to analyze, problem‑solve, organize, and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent follow‑up skills required
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Microsoft Office systems
  • Critical thinking skills
