Adult Day Center Companion (Volunteer)

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has served the Milwaukee area since 1920, providing compassionate services to those in need, advocating for justice and empowering communities.

Position Purpose / Summary

Volunteer companions will provide social interaction and support during adult day activities for older and disabled adults at the Adult Day Center located at 1919 N 60th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208. The role involves engaging participants in conversation and participating in scheduled recreational activities, snacks, and lunch.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with members in conversation and assist with daily activities.
  • Participate in scheduled activities, including recreational games and group discussions.
  • Observe and report any concerns regarding safety or well‑being of participants.
Expected Availability and Commitment
  • Working at the Adult Day Center located at 1919 N 60th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208.
  • Operates Monday through Friday in the mornings and afternoons (10:00 AM–3:00 PM).
  • Shifts of 2‑hour increments, either weekly or monthly.
  • Requires a 6‑month minimum commitment.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum age 16 to volunteer alone, or 14 with a parent present.
  • Comfortable communicating in English; additional language abilities welcomed.
Required Training

Completion of online learning modules covering safe interaction with adults and individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, stroke recovery, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other conditions.

Helpful Skills for the Role
  • Experience engaging with older adults or adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Enjoyment of playing games and engaging in recreational activities.
