Position: MEDICAL TRANSLATOR INTERPRETER, FCH - LANGUAGE SERVICES

Job Summary

Provides accurate and professional language translation and interpreting services. Translator provides written translation of a wide variety of documents. Interpreter facilitates culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality.

Responsibilities
  • Provide written translation of medical documents, patient letters, and other material.
  • Interpret diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, preventive care, and maintain cultural competency.
  • Interact with patients, families, and health care providers, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
  • Perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
  • Travel between locations during shift as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing medical interpreting in English and target language (prefer Spanish).
  • Minimum 1 year of medical translation experience, or MA in Translation and National Interpreter Certification (CCHI, NBCMI) required.
  • Preferred 3 years directly related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in translation, foreign language or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Translation preferred.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, solid knowledge of medical terminology and competence in communicating the meaning of terms.
  • Formal interpreter training preferred (40 hour medical interpretation training program).
  • CCHI or NBCMI Certification preferred.
