Summary Of The Position
To Visually or Magnetic particle inspect various alloyed steel castings to identify defects and ensure compliance with customer specifications. This position utilizes various inspection methodologies including magnetic particle testing (Magnaflux), ultrasonic testing, visual inspection, and precision measurement tools. Training period: 8-10 weeks.
Compensation: $20.00 - $28.50 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Inspection and Quality Control- Perform visual and magnetic particle inspections on various alloyed steel castings to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities
- Identify and document casting defects including cracks, shifts, pinholes, and other non-conformances
- Execute Level II Magnaflux and ultrasonic testing procedures in accordance with industry standards
- Conduct final release inspections to verify product quality prior to shipment
- Utilize precision measuring equipment and gages to verify casting dimensions and tolerances
- Reference Master Process cards and management information systems to ensure castings meet customer requirements and specifications
- Mark non-conforming castings with chalk or oil-based markers, clearly identifying defect locations
- Route defective castings to Chief Inspector for corrective action
- Maintain thorough understanding of the casting production process to ensure proper defect remediation routing
- Apply dry powder or magnetic particle equipment properly to reveal surface and subsurface defects
- Operate handheld grinders to probe, touch up, or remove minor casting defects
- Safely operate overhead hoists to maneuver castings during inspection processes
- Position and secure castings on pallets or in casting boxes using material handling equipment
- Strictly adhere to all company safety rules, guidelines, and policies
- Maintain situational awareness of potential hazards in the work area
- Communicate regularly with Chief Inspector and Cleaning Room Supervisors regarding patterns of non-conformance or quality concerns
- Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs as required
- Demonstrated experience in magnetic particle inspection
- Minimum 1 year experience as a "C" Inspector (visual inspection)
- Minimum 1 year experience as a "B" Inspector (visual inspection and Level I Magnaflux and/or Ultrasonic Testing)
- Level I Magnaflux and/or Ultrasonic Testing certification required
- Must be eligible for training and certification to Level II Magnaflux or Ultrasonic Testing standards
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions
- Manual dexterity for operating inspection equipment and hand tools
This position operates in a foundry/manufacturing environment with exposure to industrial equipment, noise, and temperature variations. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and will be provided.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support operational requirements.
