SMT Manufacturing Engineering Technician
Bloomington, MN | Direct-Hire | $20-$30/hr + OT (Flexible) | 100% Onsite | 2nd shift
We are seeking a hands‑on, detail‑oriented SMT Manufacturing Engineering Technician to support ongoing production, process improvement, and quality initiatives in a precision manufacturing environment. This role plays a key part in troubleshooting equipment, validating tooling setups, and supporting engineering with documentation, testing, and layout activities. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone with strong technical aptitude and a collaborative mindset.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- Set up and troubleshoot SMT production equipment and fixtures, assisting with maintenance, test stands, and tooling validation to ensure uptime and consistency.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to execute equipment qualifications, process validations, and new tooling trials.
- Assist with drafting, revising, and releasing work instructions, quality documentation, and test procedures.
- Support fixture and equipment development by coordinating with vendors, ordering parts, and overseeing timely build and testing.
- Use precision measurement tools to conduct part layouts and dimensional verification, reporting results to engineering.
- Maintain tooling and gauge records, track equipment performance, and ensure calibration documentation is up to date.
- Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action plans for process or product issues, participating in MRB and failure investigations.
- Support lean initiatives on the production floor by identifying improvement opportunities and collaborating on waste-reduction efforts.
- Associate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering Technology field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with mechanical measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.).
- Experience supporting validation, process improvement, and test documentation.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD systems such as Solid Works or AutoCAD.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing tools or quality systems (ISO 9001, 8D, FMEA, etc.).
- Ability to work independently on test setups, equipment troubleshooting, and layout tasks.
