Description

Job: Full time, Exempt, Union

Supervisor: Sr. Director of Development

Union Minimum Pay Rate: $76,500 annually

Position Summary

The Major Gifts Officer will work closely with the Senior Director of Development and the Chief Development Officer to advance the strategic planning, outreach and fundraising associated with the Museum’s forthcoming fundraising campaign. The Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major donors and prospects, overseeing the cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship for these individuals.

This position will support the Museum’s forthcoming fundraising campaign, which is expected to conclude in 3 to 4 years.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Actively manage a portfolio of 100 donors and prospects who have the capacity to contribute gifts of $100,000 or more over up to five years.
  • Initiate and strengthen relationships with donors and prospects, creating an individual cultivation and solicitation plan for each.
  • Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including matching donor intent with institutional needs and priorities; recommending the specific structure and level of gifts; identifying Museum leaders to be involved in cultivation and solicitation; and assuring that solicitations are carried out.
  • Develop donor communication materials, research profles, proposals and reports.
  • Balance major gift requests with annual fundraising, ensuring goals for each can be met.
  • Collaborate across the Development Department and the Museum to develop donor engagement strategies and remain knowledgeable about funding opportunities and priorities.
  • Utilize the Museum’s donor database (Raiser’s Edge) and other systems/tools to ensure personal information and contact points with donors are up to date and properly noted.
  • Regularly attend Museum events, both internally and externally, to act as an ambassador for the Museum, and identify and cultivate new prospects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Major Gift fundraising or comparable work experience
  • Proven track record of closing gifts at the six-figure level (and above)
  • Robust knowledge of best-in-practice fundraising policies and approaches
  • Thorough understanding in major gift prospect identification and moves management within a development setting
  • Customer service orientation with exceptional follow-through ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluency in Microsoft Suite and Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor database
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
  • Prior campaign management experience preferred
  • Experience in an arts/culture organization preferred
  • Familiarity with Milwaukee philanthropic landscape preferred

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people to achieve the goals of the Museum
Physical Demands

  • Remain stationary up to six hours per day
  • Occasionally move packages up to 25lbs
  • Move about the museum and offices
  • Communicate and exchange information with staff and external constituents
  • Operate computer and other office productivity machinery
