The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring full-time, part-time, and relief Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) who want to make a difference for people and animals at our Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The WHS Spay/Neuter Clinic makes spay/neuter accessible and performs thousands of surgeries each year. The clinic also partners with our Pets for Life program to provide free surgeries, making an impact not only for animals, but for the whole community.
As a CVT at our Spay/Neuter Clinic, you will hone your surgical support skills while working alongside our fun and committed team of veterinarians and support staff, along with a management team dedicated to supporting your growth and development. Key Accountabilities- Surgical preparation of patients and post-operative care
- Anesthetize, intubate, and extubate patients
- Monitor vitals under anesthesia and troubleshoot anesthetic equipment as needed
- Calculate drug dosages; handle and track controlled substances
- Clean and maintain equipment, surgical quarters, and animal areas as needed
- Ensure prompt and accurate paperwork procedures are followed
- Maintain welcoming, professional, and effective communication with co-workers and the public
- Provide excellent customer service
- Veterinary Technician Certification required
- Experience in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter preferred
- Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds

- Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
- Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Hiring range
: $22-$26/hour
Hiring bonus: We are offering $3,000 in hiring and retention bonuses for new full or part-time CVTs! New full-time or part-time CVTs will be eligible to receive a $1500 bonus gift upon completion of 90 days of employment and a second $1500 bonus gift after completion of six months of employment! That’s $3,000 total! To be eligible, the employee must maintain full-time or part-time status at the time the bonus is administered.
The bonus will not be prorated if an employee does not reach the 90 day and six-month timelines.
