Join our Jesuit high school community as a Part‑time Kitchen Assistant, supporting students’ growth, learning, and daily mission through food preparation and service while maintaining a safe, welcoming kitchen environment rooted in our values of care, service, and excellence.
Part‑time schedule:
Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 1:00 pm (30‑minute unpaid lunch).
The Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operations of the school kitchen by assisting in the preparation, cooking, and serving of nutritious meals in compliance with federal, state, and district guidelines. The role contributes to a clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen environment, working under the guidance of the Lead Kitchen Worker and the VP of Finance & Operations designee.
Essential Functions- Assist in preparing and cooking meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes.
- Serve meals to students and staff in a timely, professional manner.
- Follow proper food‑handling procedures and portion‑control standards.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation protocols (HACCP).
- Assist in receiving, unpacking, and storing food and supply deliveries.
- Rotate stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
- Support meal‑count tracking and assist with inventory as directed.
- Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow.
- Provide courteous, responsive service to students, staff, and guests.
- Report equipment or supply issues to the Lead Kitchen Worker.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Kitchen Worker or VP of Finance & Operations designee.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in a school or institutional food‑service environment preferred.
- Serv Safe certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Basic knowledge of food‑safety practices and sanitation standards.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Friendly, professional demeanor and commitment to customer service.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team‑oriented environment.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are a plus but not required.
- Willingness to work in a faith‑based, mission‑driven school community.
- Sensitivity to the cultural, racial, and religious diversity of the student body.
This role operates in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to hot surfaces, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals. Requires adherence to health and safety standards at all times.
