Security Officer - FT 2nd
- Psych Hospital - Wauwatosa

Responsibilities- Maintain a secure environment at the front line of service to protect people, information, and property. Proactively identify and resolve potentially harmful, dangerous, or unsafe situations or risks.
- Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances, in accordance with policies, procedures, and training. Inspire confidence by presenting a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor. Be alert, observant, and ethical. Comply with and enforce all safety and security rules and regulations. Maintain Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Perform routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, patient valuables management, and thorough contraband searches. Assist team members, patients and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help. Ensure traffic control, monitor conduct of visitors on premises, and confront unauthorized persons for questioning.
- Prevent, respond to, and investigate workplace violence. Respond to service calls, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents. Serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Respond immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervene in accordance with training for situations that have a potential for injury.
- Investigate incidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and complete timely and accurate reports. Address and escalation complaints to the appropriate leader and provide supporting documentation.
- Perform liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all department and units. Deliver security awareness education to team members to leverage their assistance in the overall security of the site.
- Liaise with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinate, brief, and monitor every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices.
- May serve as a precept for newly hired officers, providing feedback and assisting in maintaining competencies for all officers.
- Maintain current department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, and application of critical restraints.
First shift, full time 7a – 3p with rotating weekends. 80 hours in a two week pay period.
Licenses & Certifications- Security Officer healthcare certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) – must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
- Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ) (required to carry a taser at work – can be obtained after hire).
- Valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles (must be at least 21 years old).
High School Graduate.
Required Functional ExperienceTypically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area that includes responding to emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients, visitors, staff and/or property.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor with employees, visitors, and patients, even if they are verbally aggressive.
- Experience in quickly assessing dangerous situations and taking appropriate action.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use a computer to document work (Microsoft Word, Excel, navigate a web page, and database entry).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including off-shifts, weekends and holidays, as necessary.
- Ability to meet and maintain current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, and application of clinical restraints.
