Public Safety Officer – Casual 2nd Shift

Apply to join Children’s Wisconsin as a Public Safety Officer (Casual, 2nd shift). This role supports Public Safety operations across CW facilities.

• Patrol assigned areas and respond to emergencies, calls for service, and unusual occurrences.
• Conduct inspections, investigate incidents, and complete incident reports.
• De‑escalate verbally and, if needed, use physical restraint techniques.
• Perform Weapon Screening services to keep prohibited property out of the facility.
• Secure property/evidence and liaise with campus Public Safety/Security and local law enforcement.
• Assist Public Safety Dispatchers and operate communication center equipment.
• Monitor cameras, alarm systems, intercoms, and elevator calls.
• Respond to crowd control, disturbance resolution, firefighting, combative and disruptive patients, and related activities.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards of work.

• Patrol facilities and grounds on foot; perform parking enforcement duties;
• Investigate and write incident reports for security‑related incidents;
• Assist Dispatchers in the Communication Center;
• Respond to emergency situations of various types (crowd control, verbal–physical intervention, firefighting, etc.);
• Perform Weapon Screening services and secure property/evidence;
• Detain suspicious individuals and restrain disorderly, combative, or injurious people;
• Badge and screen visitors; direct and escort employees, staff, visitors, and patients;
• Maintain knowledge of policies, procedures, and the standards of work.

• High School graduate, GED, or HSED required.
• Post‑high school coursework in criminal justice or related field preferred.

• 1+ year in customer service required.
• 1+ year as a uniformed security officer in healthcare security, public safety, corporate security, law enforcement, or military service preferred.
• 1+ year performing weapon screening preferred.

• Complete all required introductory and annual competency training.
• Read and write to review and complete incident reports and record‑keeping activities.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Intermediate computer skills for current and future equipment and systems.
• Analytical skills for inspecting, responding, and managing emergent situations.
• Pass the Physical Capacity Exam and complete all training requirements in physical/verbal intervention and control techniques.
• Complete training in the Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP).
• IAHSS Basic certification within 6 months of hire or promotion.
• Defensive Tactics for Security (DTS) certification within 3 months of hire or promotion.

• BLS‑Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days.
