Position Summary: This position will provide unarmed security staffing at the WCS Administration Building as well as the Community Based Mental Health Programs facility. It will provide safety and security to WCS participants, staff, and visitors in a consistent and professional manner. The role will also offer backup security assistance to all WCS program locations, including shelter programs, and conduct drop‑in security assessments at sites such as The Milwaukee County Day Reporting Center, Parsons House, Joshua Glover, Thurgood Marshall Apartments, Shelter Care, Project Excel, Bakari Center, Sankofa House, Swigart, North Campus, and the WCS Behavioral Health Community Based Mental Health Programs.
EssentialFunctions
- Greeting and directing visitors and participants.
- Ensuring visitors and participants are signing in and out.
- Having thorough knowledge of the programs offered within WCS and their locations.
- Conducting interior and exterior building checks.
- De‑escalating situations that may arise with participants and removing them from the building / premises if necessary.
- Providing backup coverage for shelter programs as needed.
- Coordinating timely submission of reports and documentation such as accidents, incident reports, and medical response reports.
- Taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive behavior.
- Submitting work orders to WCS Facilities Department and WCS IT regarding security needs in the programs.
- Being responsible for overall safety and security of participants and staff.
- Assisting with clearing floors during fire / tornado drills or actual events.
- Assisting with mail and deliveries as needed.
- Reporting incidents to Milwaukee Police as required.
- Ensuring that any security or facility issues are reported to the necessary entities.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Must have at least three (3) years of experience working in a security role. Must clear Caregiver and Background checks and a physical exam prior to hire. Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile, and insurance sufficient to meet agency requirements.
Performance ExpectationsExpectations are to maintain a neat, professional appearance, and to interact with participants, staff, and members of the public in a professional manner that positively represents WCS.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Must be knowledgeable in assessing and intervening in situations that present risks and compromise safety and security. Must be proficient in the use of computers and basic software (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, co‑workers, and other staff is a must.
Ability to always exercise and use good judgement. Ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with staff and participants. Ability to respond appropriately in a crisis situation. Sensitivity toward cultural, ethnic, and disability issues. Ability to learn evidence‑based best practices and apply those skills learned.

Other Job Information Working ConditionsWork is primarily performed at the WCS North Campus, but may require a presence at other program sites as needed. Individuals performing this job can expect to work in various weather conditions as needed. Shift hours may vary depending on the needs of the agency to include evenings and weekends.
Physical DemandsMust be able to climb two to three flights of stairs and be mobile throughout the facility. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, walk and stay awake while on shift. Must be able to remain alert and aware of surroundings while on shift. Must be able to evacuate occupants from building in less than three minutes in the event of an emergency.
Requires ability to provide First Aid and CPR. Some lifting required.
