Job Summary
- I. Organizes the program
- A. Recruits students for participation within MPS guidelines.
- B. Conducts orientation meetings at feeder schools in conjunction with other head coaches.
- C. Establishes season goals and evaluates the season in conjunction with the athletic director.
- D. Conducts organizational meetings with athletes and assistant coaches.
- E. Establishes practice times for all squads in conjunction with the athletic director.
- F. Arranges for practice facilities and practice with squad.
- II. Coaches during practices and games
- A. Attends all scheduled varsity games and coaches the varsity squad.
- III. Maintains a safe environment during practices and games
- A. Makes certain there is a first aid kit available at all times and establishes rules of safety.
- B. Supervises the locker room before and after practice.
- C. Prepares accident reports and submits them to the proper authorities.
- D. Keeps emergency notification records for all athletes readily available and notifies the proper individuals in case of accident or injury to an athlete.
- E. Maintains current knowledge regarding the extent of any athletic injury and rehabilitation of the athlete.
- F. Supervises players on bus to and from athletic contests by riding the bus.
- IV. Scheduling
- A. Works with the Interscholastic Athletics Office in determining a conference schedule.
- B. Establishes non‑conference schedules, and any sub‑varsity schedule as necessary.
- C. Contracts officials for non‑conference and sub‑varsity contests as necessary.
- D. Determines transportation needs for all squads in accordance with existing policy and submits properly completed forms to the athletic director.
- E. Other duties as assigned.
- Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Athletic Director at their school.
Head coach is responsible for the entire high school program in his/her sport. He/she directs assistant coaches, establishes goals, and evaluates the program on a yearly basis. He/she advises the athletic director regarding budgetary needs, enforces all MPS rules, conference rules and WIAA rules for athletes. Maintains a safe environment during practices and contests, establishes an award system in conjunction with the athletic director, recruits athletes, promotes his/her sport within the school and the community, assists with the selection of assistant coaches and is knowledgeable of current sport rules.
Job Requirements- * Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
- * Access to reliable transportation.
- * Previous work experience with high school students, coaches
- * Experience organizing and/or leading sports activities.
- * CPR/First Aid training/certification.
- * Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
- * Ability to foster positive working relationships.
- * Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth.
- * Ability to work with groups of 20 or more young adults at a time.
This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities on a playfield or similar environment. Staff will be required to assist/supervise groups of adults as well as assist in the accommodation of adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
