Estes Energetics is seeking a highly motivated QC Chemist to join our manufacturing operations in Minden, LA. This crucial role involves significant responsibility in supporting the chemical testing of chemicals for the black powder industry. This position requires expertise in conducting diverse analyses such as mechanical property testing, thermal stability assessments, raw material analysis per military specifications, and particle size determination.
Collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including product development, production, and customers will be essential.
This job requires working with explosives. You will be required to wear work-specific clothes issued by the company and to shower at the end of each working day.
Essential Functions- Conduct chemical experiments, tests, and analyses using established procedures and protocols.
- Perform in‑process, raw material, and final product testing to support manufacturing operations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new chemical production processes, sampling methods, and test procedures.
- Perform mechanical property, thermal stability, and particle size analyses in support of production requirements.
- Record and document experimental procedures, data, and observations in an organized and compliant manner; analyze data using appropriate software and methods.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Support production troubleshooting by providing timely analytical testing and technical guidance.
- Maintain and update laboratory specifications, test methods, and documentation to meet ISO and MIL‑SPEC requirements.
- Assist in calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Maintain chemical inventory, manage reagents and supplies, and ensure proper labeling and storage.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of chemical and energetic waste in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and handle energetic materials in compliance with federal and company regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well‑organized laboratory environment.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and government partners to support project needs and process improvements.
Required
- BS in Chemistry or a related field.
- 1–2 years of experience in an analytical laboratory environment.
- Basic understanding of chemical reactions, analytical laboratory techniques, and laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- Strong attention to detail in conducting experiments and recording data.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and protocols in a laboratory setting.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain State and Federal explosives licenses, including:
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Pass pre‑employment drug test
- Pass State and Federal background checks
- Prior experience in manufacturing chemicals or dry powder and/or working with explosives.
The work will primarily be in a laboratory setting. The employee will be required to be in the plant for troubleshooting and related activities.
Physical Demands- Sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Use of mouse/computer keyboard.
- May have to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent movement through a manufacturing environment.
