Staff Accountant

At the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF), a staff accountant provides vital financial support that ensures the organization’s ability to innovate in research, patient-centered care, and education. In this role, you do more than manage accounts—you deliver accurate financial records, support compliance, and underpin strategic decisions that advance MHIF’s mission to transform cardiovascular care and save lives.

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the staff accountant supports the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) Finance Team by performing key accounting functions including weekly check runs, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and assists in the month-end close.

• Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, obtain proper approvals, and prepare payments.
• Weekly Check Run: Coordinate and complete weekly check runs; ensure all payments are properly documented and recorded.
• Accounts Receivable: Generate and send customer invoices, record payments, and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Reconciliations: Assist with account reconciliations and month-end closing processes as needed.
• Financial Support: Provide general accounting and administrative support to the finance team, including maintaining accurate records and assisting with audits or reporting.
• Work collaboratively: with all employees as part of a positive, supportive culture.
• Continuous improvement: special projects, other contributions.

• Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting or related experience.
• Minimum one to seven years of experience in accounting, including accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
• Experience with accounting software.
• Must have the ability to work with others as a team in support of a positive work culture.
