The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time ABA board-certified/eligible Cardiac Anesthesiologist. Academic rank, compensation, and appointment track will be based on qualifications and experience. The University of Minnesota Medical Center is a qua ternary care academic institution with an adult and congenital cardiac surgical program that cares for over 1,000 patients per year. The Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology is focused on three areas of excellence: patient blood management and bloodless cardiac surgery, clinical research in advanced hemodynamic monitoring and coagulation management, and technology-enhanced education, including virtual reality TEE simulation and eye-tracking tools. All faculty within the division are fellowship trained, hold NBE Advanced Perioperative TEE certification, and are certified or eligible for ABA subspecialty certification in Adult Cardiac Anesthesiology Details include:
Faculty do not sit their own cases. Faculty work with cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellows, residents, and CRNAs. We care for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement and repair (sternotomy, mini-thoracotomy and robotic), and combined procedures. A substantial proportion of our patients undergo aortic surgery, including aneurysm repair and dissection. We perform approximately 50 heart transplants and 60 VADs per year.
We perform approximately 70 lung transplants per year. We have a strong relationship with our cardiac surgeons, collaborating on research and quality improvement and participating in cardiac surgical M&M. We have an ACGME-accredited Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship with 3 positions. We have a cardiac resident rotation that accommodates 1-2 anesthesiology residents per month. Faculty actively present at national meetings and publish in recognized anesthesia journals.
We offer mentorship and ample research and QI opportunities for those interested. There is ample opportunity for formal teaching of residents and fellows in and outside the OR.

Qualifications:- Graduate of an accredited ACGME Anesthesiology residency and/or fellowship training program.
- Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology with the ABA.
- Pediatric cardiac anesthesiology training preferred.
- Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
- Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota
- Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
- Ability to work in the United States
Pay and Benefits:
This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians. Total annual compensation ranges from $420,000 to $575,000, inclusive of base pay plus expected incentive pay commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary from the University is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
