Description:

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) seeks a dedicated art educator/artist to lead and manage our nationally recognized Teaching Artist program and teach within the studio program. MCAD’s Teaching Artist program provides students opportunities to develop a reflective teaching practice in their communities, develop best practices in an arts-infused learning environment, and, though not a licensure program, prepares them for work as teaching artists in the community through educational, non-profit community organizations, neighborhood associations, and other community settings.

The successful candidate will be committed to differentiated instruction and effective teaching methods to reach all learners.

This position is full-time and begins in August 2026. Full-time faculty teach three courses each semester (or equivalent), and participate in committee work and other departmental and college activities. MCAD offers renewable, long-term contracts based on a clearly defined peer-review process. Faculty appointment for this position will be at the Assistant or Associate rank commensurate with experience. Assistant - Associate compensation range: $60,907 - $74,994, dependent on the collective bargaining agreement.

This position is benefits-eligible and reports to the Chair of the Fine Arts.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Teaching Artist program
  • Teach three studio-based courses annually
  • Advise students in collaboration with student support staff
  • Assist the Chair of Fine Arts in evaluating, designing, and developing Fine Arts curricula
  • Build and maintain educational and community partners
  • Build awareness of the program
Requirements Candidate Profile
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a diverse student population
  • Practicing visual artist with established studio or community-based practice
  • Teaching experience in both studio and art education is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years full-time teaching at the college level
  • Established record of leadership and management skills
  • Extensive knowledge and involvement in the growing Teaching Artist community and an ability to apply that knowledge locally in the Twin Cities metropolitan area and beyond
  • Current knowledge in art education theories and applications from children to adults
  • Ability to build and maintain community partnerships, including but not limited to school settings in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area
  • MFA in visual art
Organizational Profile

Founded in 1886, Minneapolis College of Art and Design is located in the rich creative community of the Twin Cities. Recognized nationally and internationally for its innovative approaches to art and design education, MCAD is home to approximately 800 students from 45 states and 15 countries. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in fourteen disciplines, including arts entrepreneurship, design, fine arts, and media arts;

one MFA; three online master’s degrees; and continuing education classes for all ages. Through the core curriculum, students focus on their careers and craft by learning technical and professional skills while developing their creative leadership capabilities.
