About The Job

The School of Statistics at the University of Minnesota invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of statistics and data science, to begin fall semester 2026 (August 31, 2026). Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May) at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience and consistent with collegiate and University policy.

Faculty in the School of Statistics in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active research program in statistics, develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute service appropriate for the rank of the appointment to the department, college, University, and profession.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field is required by the start date of the appointment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates with an established research record and college or university level teaching experience, including current assistant professors or postdocs, are preferred. Our student body is increasingly diverse (across gender, race/ethnicity, first generation college, income), and candidates with a demonstrated interest in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body are preferred.
  • Candidates will be evaluated according to the overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, evidence of research ability, evidence of commitment to teaching students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds and skills as a teacher, and strength of recommendations.
About The Department

About the School

The School of Statistics is a leading center of statistical practice, education, and research. There are currently 15 full-time faculty members and one joint faculty member with Psychology with research interests ranging from foundational statistics and data science theory and methods development to interdisciplinary applications in clinical trials, climate science, neuroimaging, psychometrics, and astrostatistics, among others.

The School offers B.A., B.S., M.S., and Ph.

D. degree programs, and has approximately 178 undergraduate majors, 144 minors, and approximately 105 graduate students including 48 Ph.D. students. Many of the school’s faculty members are affiliated with the M.S. in Data Science degree program. The school also directs the Institute for Research on Statistics and its Applications (IRSA), which facilitates interdisciplinary research involving statistics and data science.
