The Senior Technical Trainer is responsible for the analysis, design, development, delivery and evaluation of technical training for all employees within Bus Maintenance. This individual will be able to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them understandable in the form of a presentation and documentation. In this position, you’ll have an opportunity to combine your technical expertise to teach new students to learn job skills and help our maintenance technicians improve their job performance.
This position will establish a six‑month eligibility pool for current and future openings. It will remain open until all positions are filled. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
- Design and develop course outlines, syllabi, performance objectives, student guides, classroom slides, lab exercises, performance support tools, standard operating procedures, service bulletins and evaluation documents.
- Deliver technical training to maintenance personnel at local facilities for all three shifts.
- Continually evaluate course effectiveness and update materials as needed.
- Create project plans and manage multiple priorities with multiple deadlines.
- Prepare the classroom, equipment, training modules, materials etc. prior to class.
- Maintain/organize materials and equipment both inside and outside the classroom.
- Provide technical support to maintenance technicians upon request.
- Maintain control of the learning environment through effective classroom management techniques.
- Seek out industry trends on new training tools and strategies.
- Act as Garage Supervisor as needed.
- Conduct pre‑hire testing for internal and external maintenance candidates.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in a mechanical field, training and development, communications, or other related field; AND four (4) years of experience as a technical instructor, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department, with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. Work experience must include one year of supervisory or lead experience.
OR
An associate degree in a mechanical field, training and development, communications, or other related field; AND six (6) years of experience as a technical instructor, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department, with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. Work experience must include one year of supervisory or lead experience.
OR
A high school diploma or GED; AND eight (8) years as a technical instructor, reporting into a technical/mechanical training department, with a focus on course development, instructional design, adult learning concepts as well as delivery of training. Work experience must include one year of supervisory or lead experience.
Metropolitan Council Employees Only:
Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.
