The Post-Doc will work with Dr. Wei Pan ( or http:///~weip/), and his collaborators in or outside the University of Minnesota. This position places you at the forefront of the transformative AI for Science, with a particular focus on developing, implementing and fine‑tuning DNA sequence/genomic/omic large language models (gLLMs) with their applications to genetics, e.g. in identifying causal genes for Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
You will have access to state‑of‑the‑art computational infrastructure such as A100 and H100 GPUs, combined with pre‑processed large‑scale biobank data such as UK Biobank and ADSP, enabling you to work at the scale required for breakthrough research. The role offers exceptional opportunities for professional development, including learning the latest advancements in large language models, translating these innovations to genomic applications, and leading manuscript preparation for high‑impact journals.
Additionally, you will receive mentorship and support in developing and launching your own independent research career.
Our group has been fortunate in the last 20+ years securing NIH funding with former members having successfully transitioned to faculty or industrial leadership positions at leading institutions/companies across the United States. This position provides a clear trajectory toward establishing yourself as a leader in this rapidly emerging field, with strong preparation for successful academic or industry research careers.
Duration:
This appointment is for 1 year, may be extended for a second and/or third year depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Required Qualifications:
- A PhD degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field who possess STRONG computing/programming and communication skills.
- Essential qualifications include the ability to quickly learn new things and work independently, open minded, along with previous research experience in at least one of the following areas:
- 1) statistical genetics/genomics/omics, or
2) deep learning/AI. Most importantly, we value candidates who demonstrate both the ability and drive to rapidly learn and implement recent advances in AI.
