Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am - 11:30 pm, plus 1.5 hrs weekly for recruitment

Reports to the Adult Basic Education Program Director
Primary FunctionDesigns and implements in person and online academic instruction for adult students with strokes or brain injuries with skill levels below grade 12.
Relationships- Reports to the program director
- Directs the daily activities of assigned support staff and volunteers in accordance with established policy
- Interacts positively with all students and staff
- Maintains working relationships with professionals in outside agencies that serve individuals with strokes and brain injuries - Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance, Minnesota Stroke Association, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, MnCAN, hospital stroke programs, correctional facilities, etc.
- Collaborates with PANDA and MDE as necessary
- Maintains communication with families and guardians of students
- Facilitates orientation process for prospective students - interview, registration, testing
- Administers pre and post testing of students
- Implements and maintains Distance Learning opportunities for students
- Maintains student records
- Maintains confidentiality, including of registration and testing materials
- Assists adult students in developing and fulfilling personal learning plans
- Chooses and/or designs instructional activities relevant to students
- Masters skills and content required for successful teaching in a class format
- Builds rapport between staff and students
- Maintains student and program records
- Collaborates with client services provided by agencies serving adults with stroke and brain injuries
- Coordinates and assists with student rides, as necessary, such as Metro Mobility
- Markets and publicizes the class to the wider community (presentations, newsletters, etc.)
- Participates in professional development to build knowledge of strokes and brain injuries
- Gives input on all aspects of program implementation
- Organizes and implements instructional programming for assigned participants in accordance with program, district and state guidelines
- Serves as spokesperson for the program
- Takes a leadership role in the stroke and brain injury community and presents at professional conferences
- Cooperates with other agencies providing services to adults with physical disabilities
- Develops effective individualized and group instruction, both in-person and online
- Maintains good working relationships with adult students, professional colleagues and support staff
- Takes a leadership role in the stroke and brain injury community and presents at professional conferences
- Holds a current Minnesota teaching license. Certification in one or more of the following areas is desirable: elementary education, special education Reading, English, 7-12, socials studies, 7-12, or math, 7-12
- Has had successful teaching experience
- Comfortable teaching basic math and life skills math
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills
- Enjoys working within a professional teaching team
- Appreciates the opportunity to interact with persons from differing ethnic, social economic backgrounds and disabilities
- Has the flexibility and creativity to accept a constantly changing student population
- Is open to new educational practices
- Demonstrates knowledge of how to incorporate educational technology into instruction
- Ability to earn Certified Brain Injury Specialist certification from the Brain Injury Association of America
