Mortenson is currently seeking a Project Buyer II to support the Power Delivery Operating Group. This role focuses on building supplier relationships, managing procurement activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment for the construction of substations, wind collection systems, and transmission lines.
Responsibilities- Purchase equipment and materials at the best value while meeting quality, quantity, and specification requirements (e.g., transmission line steel, substation steel, HV electrical equipment, enclosures, MV cable).
- Collaborate with project, estimating, and design phase teams to align supply chain strategies with project goals and schedules.
- Plan material needs early in the project design phase to secure long-lead and critical‑path items.
- Solicit bids, analyze quotations, and select suppliers based on cost and schedule competitiveness.
- Ensure buyouts align with budgets and manage procurement risks and compliance.
- Interpret technical specifications and confirm supplier compliance.
- Draft and execute purchase agreements and coordinate with Risk team on surety requirements.
- Lead supplier calls to monitor performance, resolve issues, and maintain strong partnerships.
- Track orders from placement through delivery and communicate status to project teams.
- Conduct quarterly job site and supplier visits to strengthen relationships.
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree in business, supply chain management, construction management or related discipline, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
- 5+ years of procurement experience.
- Ability to handle multiple procurement activities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, and/or materials, purchasing processes, and procedures.
- Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal, and communication skills.
- Strong customer service and analytical skills.
- Active listening skills and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback.
- Software experience.
- Current driver's license.

Base pay range: $74,600 – $111,900 (adjusted by location: Denver and Chicago +5%, Seattle and Portland +10%, Washington D.C. +12.5%). Salary based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
