SummaryMortenson is currently seeking an Application Storage Engineer III that will be responsible for completing routine engineering assignments for energy storage and medium voltage distribution systems. The candidate will perform preliminary pursuit and engineering assignments, coordinate with Design Phase Managers, Project Managers, and other engineering team members, and support customers. Responsibilities include reviewing project requirements, preparing design packages, and presenting technical information to stakeholders.

- Interact with and present to multiple stakeholders, including customer decision makers and project teams.
- Provide technical support to personnel and cross‑functional teams for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, Project Managers, and Design Phase Managers to deliver design projects successfully.
- Participate on project teams that execute design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles.
- Perform lead technical designer tasks on 2–3 large design projects annually across all scopes.
- Mentor, guide, and manage other Engineering Professionals.
- Review, approve, and select equipment vendor quotes on major equipment.
- Collect and evaluate data to recommend courses of action.
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data aligned with engineering policies and QA/QC procedures.
- Perform data analysis, calculations, and studies for preliminary and detailed designs.
- Develop technical specifications and guide drafters and designers to meet schedules.
- Manage multiple projects and provide detailed design packages that meet all applicable standards and safety codes.
- Apply discipline‑specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies.
- Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in selecting and adapting standard techniques.
- Maintain a first‑time review rate of 80% correct on engineering documents.
- Apply the equation S=P+jQ where appropriate.
- Verify construction aligns with design drawings and QA/QC requirements.
- Develop technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages.
- Create detailed designs that align with customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering program.
- 4+ years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of project controls software (e.g., Procore, Unifier).
- Experience in system integration, product adaptation, and design development for systems.
- Electrical background or industry experience, preferably with power inverters and/or DC batteries/solutions.
- Design optimization skills involving technical parameters with economic feedback for decisions.
- Familiarity with software packages such as CYMCAP, CDEGS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking and analysis.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
- FE and/or Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
- Experience in the T&D industry, preferably in Energy Storage, Solar, or Wind design.
- Understanding of discipline‑specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies.

Base pay range for this role is $95,700 – $129,200. Actual range is higher in Denver, CO and Chicago, IL (+5%), Seattle, WA and Portland, OR (+10%), and Washington, D.C. (+12.5%). Salary is positioned within this range based on individual knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
