Your Opportunity

Stantec's multi-disciplinary office in Minneapolis, MN has an opportunity for a Water Resources Technician. This position requires the flexibility to work in the office and on construction sites, performing inspection duties. While the majority of the work will be in the Twin Cities metro area, there will be occasional travel for extended periods for projects in Greater Minnesota or neighboring states.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct erosion control, stormwater, and environmental compliance inspections and documentation on active construction sites.
  • Determine restoration methods for wetlands, ensuring that seed mixes used on projects conform to the requirements of the SWPP, VMP, and AIMP.
  • Monitor the construction activity for noxious weed infestation, collect seed tags for final restoration, oversee stump removal, identify erosion control methods with the SWPPP.
  • Monitor, photograph, and document incoming equipment from contractors, ensuring that cleanliness standards are met.
  • Verify that wetlands are not being adversely impacted during construction activities and monitor clearing activities to prevent over-clearing from occurring.
  • Document issues of noncompliance and work with construction personnel to identify and implement appropriate corrective actions as needed, ensuring QA/QC requirements and procedures are adhered to.
  • Review and prepare erosion and sediment control plans and SWPPPs.
  • Assist with NPDES program development and preparation of MS4 Permits and SWPPPs.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Interact and communicate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in completion of technical reports.
  • Actively participate in maintaining Stantec's safety culture, including exercising stop-work authority when activities are determined to be out of compliance.
  • Monthly travel to project sites will be required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Knowledge of the Twin Cities metro area.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technical communication skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Possess strong note-taking and fundamental technical writing skills.
  • Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed, as dictated by weather and construction needs.
  • Ability to travel to remote sites as needed for extended periods.
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work.
  • Previous field experience in construction site stormwater and utilities compliance is considered an asset.
  • Current technical knowledge regarding construction site BMPs is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements associated with stormwater and utility compliance is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of database management is considered an asset.
  • This position requires driving for business purposes. Must hold a valid driver’s license and meet motor vehicle records requirements.
Education and Experience
  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience.
